Holywood's May Day

Historically, May Day was a charitable event organised and managed by Holywood District & Community Council (HDCC) raising much needed funds for good causes.  HDCC also revived the tradition of dancing around the May Pole and the crowning of the May Queen.

May Day is held on the first Bank Holiday Monday in May and is the major May Day event in Northern Ireland which attracts over 10,000 people to the town centre from 11 am to 5 pm to join in the celebrations.
